The Difference Between Baseball And Cricket – Despite the same language, leaving out the spelling differences, Brits and Americans have a huge cultural and traditional difference in almost every aspect of life. Some might say that there are more similarities than differences but it is hard to see any similarity beyond music and movies.
Although both the games are bat and ball games and both require two teams of players and follow somewhat similar rules, there are more differences than one can imagine. Here we aren’t only talking about the usage of word ‘pitching’ instead of ‘bowling’, but far more technical differences as well.
-The first noticeable difference is a difference of shapes. The cricket ground is circular in shape and the baseball ground is a unique diamond shape. The bat in baseball is a cylindrical one with the diameter of one end bigger than the other.
-The ball used for both the games are round. The cricket ball now used in test matches is red in color and comparatively a bit heavier but with a smaller circumference. However, the difference is negligible.
-The number of umpires in a baseball can range from one to six. But, usually there are four umpires in a field. In cricket, there are normally three umpires, out of which two are on the field and third umpire is off the field.
-In baseball, all the players except the catcher wear a glove in one hand. In cricket, protective equipment is used by the batsmen while other fielders and bowlers do not wear any kind of gear.
-In basketball, one batsman is allowed a maximum of three legal pitches. In cricket, the number of balls per bowler depends upon the number of balls in a game.
-The highest score possible in one hit is four in baseball. In cricket, the highest hit can be six.
Besides all these difference, the length of both games also differs. Defining a more tight and busy lifestyle of Americans, baseball games are generally shorter. The test matches of cricket can last up to five days while one day internationals too require almost a whole day to reach a conclusion.
